Planned Giving Spotlight: Hilda Moore

Mrs. Hilda Moore's generosity to Darlington can't be overstated. Hilda, the mother of the late Reyn, '72, and Tom, '75, has expressed her gratitude for Darlington over the years. Hilda shared, "It is impossible to describe the depth of my appreciation for the positive qualities Darlington instilled in my sons, Reyn and Tom." With her generous contributions, specifically via a Charitable Gift Annuity, she's honored the memory of her sons, made an immense impact in our community, and all the while benefitted from a life income plan.

Hilda and her late husband, Hugh, enrolled both of their boys at Darlington because of the generosity of scholarship funds. Years later, they paid it forward by committing a gift of their own. She described paying it forward by saying, "Without Darlington's financial assistance our sons would not have had the golden opportunity to become Darlington graduates. Due to the impact Darlington School made on our beloved late sons, it has been my pleasure and privilege to continue my financial support to this beloved and supportive school of excellence." She continued, "Darlington's influence upon our sons privileged my late husband, Hugh, and me to give back in their stead by establishing a legacy in their memory. This shall provide future scholarship assistance to deserving students, and will provide a pathway for the continuity of the hopes and dreams of our two sons."

Of note is the book that Hilda wrote, and released, in 2009. Her book, Two Sons Twice Born, A Mother's Memoir, beautifully describes the life that she, her late husband, and her sons enjoyed. Furthermore, she paints a clear picture of her spiritual path as a mother- both raising her sons and navigating the aftermath of losing them. This work is an impressive compilation, but it is also a clear indicator of Hilda's grace and generosity.

Hilda remains in constant contact with the Advancement Team. She's invariably keen to hear about the state of the school, and she is always quick to reiterate her affinity for the Darlington community. Hilda noted that "Darlington School's wonderful and loving staff have made my life much brighter and happier." The feelings are mutual, Hilda, as you have brightened our lives, and the lives of countless others. Without question, the impact of your gift will be felt by generations of future Tigers.

Making a planned gift via a Charitable Life Income mechanism is a seamless process, and we're happy to discuss this giving option further. For more information about planned giving, please contact Julie W. Lucas, Chief Advancement Officer, [email protected], 404-791-3574.
